This present study aims to explain knowledge and types as a main concept of knowledge management, and effective factors on knowledge management programs. The research method is an analytic- review article and to collect information were used library methods. Findings revealed that there are major misinterpretation of knowledge management, because, there is not a common conception of the term "knowledge", and a clear understanding of knowledge and related concepts leads to form a common conception. People, process, technology and culture are the elements which effect on the knowledge management programs, so clear understanding of the factors can help knowledge managers implement the knowledge management programs better than before. Today, organizations pay attention to the topic of knowledge and its management in order to deal with changes and gain a competitive advantage. This has caused the formation of the movement of knowledge management, and the movement has turned into a necessity for the knowledge oriented organizations in recent years. Knowledge management is a new subject in many fields, but it is necessary to be paid more attention to its scientific and theoretical foundations.
